Two separate incidents of electrocution have resulted in the deaths of four people in West Bengal, while one person has been seriously injured.
In Birbhum district, two laborers were electrocuted to death after being hit by an 11 thousand volt wire in Tulakalam Badhal of Sadaipur. The incident caused a lot of commotion in the area, and local people have expressed their anger at the electricity department, alleging that the department had failed to properly maintain the high-tension wire.
The deceased have been identified as Vishnu Tanwar (22) and Vikas Tanwar (24), who were on their way to a paddy field with a cutting machine when they accidentally collided with the high-tension wire. Local residents gathered at the site and chased away the policemen of Sadaipur police station, demanding the presence of electricity department officials before releasing the bodies.
In Kolkata's Iqbalpur, a mother and daughter died of electrocution while drying wet clothes on a wire hanging on the wall of Ekbalpur Lane. The deceased have been identified as Izhar Akhtar (51) and Muntaha Begum (64), while the son-in-law has been admitted to Ekbalpur Nursing Home with serious injuries. Muntaha Begum tried to save herself and her daughter, Khairul Nesa, but they both were electrocuted.
Trinamool MP Shantanu Sen has stated that these incidents were accidents and could happen anytime, but local people are blaming the electricity department for their negligence. The administration is actively taking initiatives, and the police are also actively investigating the incidents.
